These days, the societal challenges of environmental monitoring and management call for novel technologies that will influence the design of relevant applications. In particular, satellite and airborne-based remote sensing play a critical role acquiring, everyday, a huge number of remotely sensed very high resolution images. On one hand, this is beneficial to the scientific Community since more information is available, but, on other hand, more challenges are expected. Thus, image processing techniques are developed to deal with several and often new issues. The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters (GRSL) calls for papers for a Special Stream on “Advances in Image Processing for Very High Resolution Optical Remote Sensing Images”. The papers will be based on the latest research results and outcomes about processing for very high spatial resolution optical remotely sensed images. Particularly, original submissions reporting recent advances in data fusion, segmentation, classification and other signal processing approaches applied to optical remotely sensed images are encouraged.
Datasets
Thanks to the DigitalGlobe Foundation, we can provide to the participants WorldView-3 data to be exploited to assess the proposed approaches. The datasets consist of a panchromatic image with very high spatial resolution (about 30 cm), eight multispectral images in the visible near-infrared spectrum (spatial resolution 1.24 m) and eight short-wave infrared images (spatial resolution 7.5 m). The datasets can be downloaded using following the links, below:
