GRSS Image Analysis and Data Fusion: Benchmarking ML4RS

Video

The GRSS Image Analysis and Data Fusion (IADF) technical committee serves as a global and multi-disciplinary network for geospatial image analysis and data fusion (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, image and signal processing, and big data, multi-sensor, multi-scale, and multi-temporal data integration).

In this webinar, we will first provide an overview of our past, ongoing, and future activities and second discuss the challenges of evaluating modern machine learning methods on remote sensing images.

SPEAKER’S BIO:

Naoto Yokoya received the M.Eng.and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, The University of Tokyo,Tokyo, Japan, in 2010 and 2013, respectively.

He is a Lecturer with the University of Tokyo and a Unit Leader with the RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project, Tokyo, Japan, where he leads the Geoinformatics Unit. He was an Assistant Professor with the University of Tokyo from 2013 to 2017. From 2015 to 2017, he was an Alexander vonHumboldt Fellow, working at the German AerospaceCenter (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen, and Technical University of Munich (TUM), Munich, Germany. His research is focused on the development of image processing, data fusion, and machine learning algorithms for understanding remote sensing images, with applications to disaster management.

Dr. Yokoya won the first place in the 2017 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Data Fusion Contest organized by the Image Analysis and Data Fusion Technical Committee (IADF TC). He is the Chair (2019–2021) and was a Co-Chair (2017–2019) of IEEE GRSS IADF TC and also the secretary of the IEEE GRSS All Japan Joint Chapter from 2018. He has been an Associate Editor for the IEEE JOURNAL OF SELECTED TOPICS IN APPLIED EARTH OBSERVATIONS AND REMOTE SENSING (JSTARS) since 2018. He is/was a Guest Editor for the IEEE JSTARS (2015–2016), for Remote Sensing (2016–2020), and for the IEEE GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING LETTERS(GRSL) (2018–2019).

Ronny Hänsch received the Ph.D. degree from Technische Universität Berlin, Berlin, Germany, in 2014.

Since 2019, he has been with Microwaves and Radar Institute (HR), German Aerospace Center (DLR), Weßling, Germany. He worked in the field of image-based classification with a focus on remote sensing data. He organized multiple tutorials regarding machine learning and computer vision at international conferences and continues to lecture at the Technische Universität Berlin. His research interests include computer vision, remote sensing, neural networks, and ensemble theory. His recent research interests focus on the development of methods for 3-D reconstruction as well as ensemble methods.

Dr. Hänsch serves as a Co-Chair for the IEEE GRSS IADF Technical Committee and the ISPRS WG II/1 Image Orientation and also an Associate Editor for the IEEE GRSS GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING LETTERS. He contributes as a Reviewer for several international journals.
