Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) Competition at IGARSS 2025

IGARSS 2025 3MT Competition

Are you a research-based master’s or doctoral student attending IGARSS 2025? If so, we invite you to take part in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) competition!

This prestigious academic challenge, originally developed by the University of Queensland, is designed to help students sharpen their research communication skills. Participants must summarize their thesis or research in just three minutes, using only one static slide, while engaging a general audience.

📢 How to Enter:
Submit a 3-minute video explaining your research and thesis topic. You can upload your video to Google Drive, YouTube, TikTok, or another platform or provide a private URL accessible to the evaluation committee.

📌 Judging Criteria for the First Round:

  • Presentation Skills (40%) – Clarity, confidence, and engagement.
  • Scientific Quality (40%) – Depth, accuracy, and impact of research.
  • Originality (20%) – Uniqueness and creativity in presentation.

📌 Competition Format:

  • The top 10 finalists will be selected and invited to compete in the final round in person at IGARSS 2025.
  • Three winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, receiving:
    🥇 1st Place: $500
    🥈 2nd Place: $300
    🥉 3rd Place: $200
  • Winners will also receive the “IEEE GRSS Excellence in Technical Communication Student Prize Award”

📌 People’s Choice Award:
For the final round, we’re introducing an audience voting system! Attendees will vote for their favorite presentation, and the speaker with the most votes will receive the People’s Choice Award.

📅 Competition Timeline:
May 15, 2025 – Submission deadline (Submit your application via bit.ly/IGARSS2025).
June 15, 2025 – First-round results: Top 10 finalists announced.
August 3-8, 20253MT™ Final Round at IGARSS 2025 and winners announced at the banquet (Exact date to be confirmed).
