TGRS: Information for Authors

Subject Matter:

IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING (TGRS) is an online publication that focuses on the theory, concepts, and techniques of science and engineering as applied to sensing the land, oceans, atmosphere, and space and the processing, interpretation, and dissemination of this information. This journal publishes technical papers disclosing novel methodological advancement and significant research. Experimental data must be complete and include sufficient descriptions of the experimental apparatus, methods, and relevant experimental conditions.

Submitting Papers:

Authors are required to submit electronically using the website, mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tgrs. Instructions for creating new user accounts, if necessary, are available on the login screen. No other manners of submission are accepted. For questions concerning the process, or for assistance with the submission, please write to tgrs-editor@ieee.org, or by fax to +1-732-562-0545. Submission of a manuscript is assurance that it has not been copyrighted, published, or accepted for publication elsewhere; that it is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere; and that it will not be submitted elsewhere while under consideration by TGRS, unless the author states otherwise.

Style:

TGRS is addressed to readers with a wide variety of interests. The author should refrain from using terminology that may not be familiar to readers and carefully explain the terminology that is used. In addition, the author should provide brief introductory remarks and references that will permit the reader to relate the paper to other work in the author’s field of specialty. Clarity of both writing and illustrations is required. TGRS is published only in English, and the use of correct English is required of all authors. Thus, contributors for whom English is not a native language should have their papers edited for style, form, grammar, and spelling suitable for publication prior to submission to TGRS. Papers should be accompanied by brief biographies and clear, good quality image files with photographs of the authors.

Manuscript Page Format:

Please note that all submissions, including revisions, must include a pdf version of their paper formatted using the IEEE Standard format (double column, single spaced). Line numbers are not necessary; they are added automatically during the submission process. For a template in this format please see template-selector.ieee.org/ secure/templateSelector/publicationType.

References:

Begin references in a separate section. They must be singlespaced. References must be in IEEE style, which is as follows: Papers: J. K. Author, “Title of paper,” Title of Journal, vol. n, no. n, pp. nnn-nnn, month, year. Books: J. K. Author, Title of Book. Location of Publisher: Name of Publisher, ch. n, pp. nnn-nnn, year.

Figures and Tables:

Figure captions and table titles should be sufficiently clear so that the figures and tables can be understood without detailed reference to the accompanying text. Axes of graphs should have selfexplanatory labels, not just symbols (e.g., Electric Field rather than E). Every table and figure should be numbered and explicitly referred to in the text. They should be inserted into the places close to the relevant text.

Native Language Author Names:

IEEE supports the publication of author names in the native language alongside the English versions of the names in the author list of an article. For more information, please visit the IEEE Author Digital Tool Box. Review Process: Each published article was reviewed by a minimum of two independent reviewers using a single-blind peer review process, where the identities of the reviewers are not known to the authors, but the reviewers know the identities of the authors. Articles will be screened for plagiarism before acceptance.

Open Access:

This publication is a hybrid journal, allowing either Traditional manuscript submission or Open Access (author-pays OA) manuscript submission. Upon submission, if you choose to have your manuscript be an Open Access article, you commit to pay the discounted $2,495 OA fee if your manuscript is accepted for publication in order to enable unrestricted public access. Any other application charges (such as overlength page charges) will be billed separately once the manuscript formatting is complete but prior to the publication. If you would like your manuscript to be a Traditional submission, your article will be available to qualified subscribers and purchasers via IEEE Xplore. No OA payment is required for Traditional submission.

Page Charges:

A mandatory Excessive Paper Length (overlength) charge of $230.00 per page (beginning with page 7 and beyond) is required for papers over six (6) printed pages. The price for GRS Society members is $200.00 per page. The author will be notified of the estimated paper length upon receipt of the original manuscript. The author will be requested, conditional upon favorable technical review, to pay an optional sustaining page charge of $110 per printed page to cover the cost of publication of the first six pages. Authors are encouraged to seek institutional support for all page costs. Authors who cannot pay the mandatory overlength page charges need to write to tgrs-editor@ieee.org and apply for a fee waiver before submission.

Copyright:

It is the policy of the IEEE to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes on behalf of the interests of the IEEE, its authors, and their employers, and to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material by others. To comply with the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to submit an IEEE copyright transfer form before publication. TGRS has moved to an all-electronic copyright system. The form can be found in the corresponding author’s Manuscript Central author center after the paper has been accepted. It should be completed by clicking the Copyright Submission button next to the title of the accepted paper. It returns to the authors and their employers full rights to reuse their material for their own purposes.

ORCID ID:

All IEEE journals require an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) for all authors. ORCIDs enable accurate attribution and improved discoverability of an author’s published work. The author will need a registered ORCID in order to submit a manuscript or review a proof in this journal. To create an ORCID, please visit orcid.org/register.

Manuscript Submittal Checklist:

Use IEEE standard format with double column, single spaced pages; number all pages of a manuscript in a single series with no omitted numbers; edit manuscript for correct English usage; provide complete postal mailing address, telephone, and e-mail address of corresponding author (include country and city codes); brief biography and photo image file for each author are recommended. While the list of processing programs acceptable to IEEE electronic production is almost endless, there are preferred programs that enable the preservation of the greatest amounts of information. TeX, LaTeX and M/S Word are preferred. An IEEE LaTeX style file, IEEEtrans.sty, is obtainable by authors who e-mail a request to help@ep.ieee.org. The following points are important to remember when submitting electronic manuscripts in TeX and LaTeX. 1) Include all macros (\def) that are required to produce your document. 2) IEEE Transactions style dictates a 21-pica (3.5-in) column width. If mathematical phrases are produced with this in mind, they are more likely to appear well formatted in the final version. It is suggested that authors keep user-defined macros to a minimum.

Graphical Abstract:

To enhance the appearance of your article on IEEE Xplore, a graphical abstract can be displayed along with traditional text. The graphical abstract should provide a clear, visual summary of your article’s findings by means of an image, animation, video, or audio clip. For more information about graphical abstracts and their specifications, please visit the following link: journals.ieeeauthorcenter.ieee.org/ create-your-ieee-journal-article/prepare-supplementary-materials/.

Final Files:

After the manuscript is accepted for publication, the final files are required. Unauthorized changes to your manuscript at this stage are not expected. They need to be justified and approved before publication. This includes any changes to the title, content, or references. Changes to the author list after the final decision are strongly discouraged, and the author list should be finalized and agreed upon by all authors prior to submission.

English Language Editing Services:

English language editing services can help refine the language of your article and reduce the risk of rejection without review. IEEE authors are eligible for discounts at several language editing services; visit the IEEE Author Center to learn more. Please note these services are fee-based and do not guarantee acceptance.
