Instructions for authors of GRSM submission

Author Instructions

All Review Article, Tutorial, and Special Issue submissions on GRSM first require a White Paper to be submitted. Column papers do not require a White Paper. White papers are usually no more than four-five (4-5) pages long in IEEE double column format, excluding references and bios, with the following components:

  • Title
  • The author list, contact information
  • Motivation and significance of the topic for the GRSM readership
  • An outline of the proposed paper, clearly describing the main contribution(s) of the paper and the rationale to have it published on a magazine as opposed to a scientific journal, such as J-STARS or TGRS.

References and bios should also be included but, as mentioned, they do not contribute to the 4-5 pages used for the description and outline of the proposed paper.

A document about the White Paper rationale and a template description is available at this link www.grss-ieee.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/GRSM-White-Paper-rationale-and-temp….

Please do not submit your full-length article or supplementary material at the same time you submit the White Paper. White Papers need to be evaluated independently before the full submission.

Submitting White Papers:

  • All authors must submit a White Paper before submitting a full-length article for Reviews, Tutorials, and Special Issue submissions.
  • Manuscripts transferred from a referring journal do not need to submit a white paper.
  • To submit a White Paper for one of these three submission types choose the appropriate submission type below and follow the submission instructions.

White paper submissions
To submit a white paper, please choose one of the following

  • White Paper-Review
  • White Paper-Tutorial
  • White Paper-Special Issue

Submitting Full Length Articles:

  • To submit a full-length Review, Tutorial, or Special Issue article your White Paper submission must have already been invited for full article review. If your white paper has been invited, you will find a link to your submission under the “Manuscripts Awaiting Revisions” queue in your Author Center.
  • Click on “Manuscripts Awaiting Revision” and click the action “create a revision” and then proceed in submitting your full article as a “revision” of the white paper. You may also click the “Click here to submit a revision” link.
  • Please ensure that you change the manuscript type to reflect the correct designation:
    • Review
    • Tutorial
    • Special Issue
  • To continue a submission already in progress, click the “Continue Submission” link in the “Unsubmitted Manuscripts” list.

Please note: If ScholarOne Manuscripts tells you that your “revision option” has expired and will not let you upload your full article, please email the administrator to extend the revision deadline. Any full papers submitted as “new manuscripts” will not appear in the correct queue for the editorial staff. Full articles must be submitted as “revisions” of the white papers.

Column papers DO NOT require a White Paper submission. When submitting a column paper, please submit the full article at initial submission and ensure that you choose the appropriate column designation. Column papers must be five pages or less in IEEE double column format.

Open Access Charges

This publication is a hybrid journal, allowing either Traditional manuscript submission or Open Access (author-pays OA) manuscript submission. Upon submission, if you choose to have your manuscript be an Open Access article, you commit to pay the discounted $2,995 OA fee if your manuscript is accepted for publication to enable unrestricted public access. Any other application charges (such as overlength page charges) will be billed separately once the manuscript formatting is complete but before the publication. If you would like your manuscript to be a Traditional submission, your article will be available to qualified subscribers and purchasers via IEEE Xplore. No OA payment is required for Traditional submission.

Formatting

Full papers should be formatting according to IEEE instructions (journals.ieeeauthorcenter.ieee.org/submit-your-article-for-peer-review/the-ieee-…).

Update on Authorship:

The use of artificial intelligence (AI)–generated text in an article shall be disclosed in the acknowledgements section of any paper submitted to an IEEE Conference or Periodical. The sections of the paper that use AI-generated text shall have a citation to the AI system used to generate the text.
