Description: The GRS-S established the Interactive Session Prize Paper Award to recognize the author(s) who posted at the GRS-S Symposium (IGARSS) an exceptional paper in terms of content and impact on the GRS-S.

Administration: IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS).

Eligibility: Papers posted in Interactive Sessions of IGARSS. Eligibility and the selection process shall comply with procedures and regulation established in IEEE and Society governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations.

Award Items: Certificate and US$1250 honorarium. If there are multiple authors, each will receive a certificate and the honorarium will be shared.

Funds: The award is funded through the IEEE GRSS budget. The society’s budget includes the amount for this award AND the Society budget is net positive with the inclusion of the award.

Selection Procedure: A special committee designated by each IGARSS will assess all papers posted in the Interactive Sessions. The Special Committee will score papers on readability ease, comprehension ease, clarity, background adequacy, content adequacy, originality, significance, impact, timeliness, etc. The published versions of the papers in the Digest shall also be evaluated.

Award Committee: The nominations are evaluated and ranked by the IEEE GRSS Publications Awards Committee. The IEEE GRSS AdCom approves the award in its spring meeting.

Selection/Basis for Judging: The GRSS established the Interactive Session Prize Paper Award to recognize the author(s) who posted at the GRSS Symposium (IGARSS) an exceptional paper in terms of content and impact on the GRSS. In selecting the paper, other factors considered are originality, clarity and timeliness of the paper. The published versions of the papers in the Digest shall also be evaluated.

Presentation: The award shall be presented at an awards ceremony during IGARSS of the following year.

Publicity: A feature publication will be published in the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE SENSING and/or in the GRSS Magazine, and in any other suitable media.

Schedule: The following schedule shall be the guideline:

IGARSS Nominations for the Symposium Interactive Prize Papers shall be conducted during IGARSS.
Sept. The titles and scores of the outstanding posters shall be forwarded to the GRSS Awards Committee within one month following IGARSS.
Feb. 15 deadline for evaluations by Publications Awards Cmte
Feb. AdCom approval of the candidate by GRSS AdCom
March 1 notify recipient, request biographical sketch and photo
April 1 order certificate with citation from IEEE, and send signatures of both GRS-S President and Awards Committee Chair to IEEE Headquarters (allow 2 months)
IGARSS awards presentation (Plenary or Banquet)
Prepare material for GRSS Magazine immediately after IGARSS
Sept. Prepare archival material for TRANSACTIONS
