The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) is seeking nominations for Distinguished Lecturers, due on or before July 1, 2026. Any GRSS member can nominate another GRSS member, and self-nominations are accepted.
The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Distinguished Lecturers (DL) program offers chapters worldwide access to presentations by leading experts covering topics important to the community’s interests. We carefully select only the most outstanding and knowledgeable individuals in their respective fields to join our Distinguished Lecturers program.
Each DL appointment spans two years and may be renewed for at most one additional year. We are mainly focused on the diverse field of interest within GRSS, encompassing the science and engineering aspects, including theories, concepts, and remote sensing techniques across Earth, oceans, atmosphere, and space. Additionally, we emphasize the processing, interpretation, and dissemination of this valuable information.
The Distinguished Lecturer Program Committee plans to make selections prior to the 2026 IGARSS. Candidates can be selected as either a Distinguished Lecturer or an Associate Distinguished Lecturer – Associate Distinguished Lecturers are relatively early in their career (and/or are new to the GRSS field) but are extraordinarily well-accomplished and offer unique expertise in important GRSS topic areas, often in emerging techniques, observing campaigns, etc.
The upcoming two-year term for Lecturers will run from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2028. Distinguished Lecturers typically deliver at least two lectures annually within the technical areas to a GRSS Chapter, and some international travel is to be expected. Furthermore, they are encouraged to record at least one “voice-over PowerPoint” lecture to share on the GRSS DS website and distribute among GRSS members during the term’s duration.
To nominate an outstanding individual to be a Distinguished Lecturer, please submit the accompanying application document.
Please email the completed application to grss-dl-chair@ieee.org
