The award is to recognize excellence in a Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Student Branch Chapter or Joint IEEE Student Branch Chapter demonstrated by exemplary local GRSS activities during the previous calendar year with respect to the date of application. The award shall be considered annually and presented only when a deserving Chapter is identified.
The Special Awards Committee requires that to be eligible:
The Chapter is an IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Student Branch Chapter or joint IEEE Student Branch Chapters.
Previous student branch chapters are deemed ineligible for the award if they have won it in the previous three years.
Eligibility and Selection process shall comply with procedures and regulation established in IEEE and Society/Council governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations.

The award shall be presented annually. Award will be given only if a suitable awardee is identified.
This award is based on the Student Branch Chapters’ annual reports and not on nominations. For each Student Branch Chapter to be considered, the Chapter Chair is required to submit a copy of the previous year’s annual chapter report to the GRS Society Chapter Coordinator before January 15. The GRS Society Chapter Coordinator then will compile a synopsis of all Chapter Reports received and may provide a recommendation to the GRS Society Chapter Awards Chair before January 31. The GRS Society Chapter Coordinator may provide recommendations but does not have a vote in the Awards selection. The Special Awards Committee Chair oversees the review of all or recommended chapter reports by the GRS Society Chapter Awards Committee. Neither the Chapter Coordinator nor the Special Awards Committee Chair has a vote in the Awards selection. The Society Chapter Awards Chair determines if a suitable Student Branch Chapter is found for this award.
