Inviting applications for IEEE Regional Chapter Coordinators
March 3rd, 2023
Are you an IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing society (GRSS) member who has experience or interest in helping organize and coordinate chapter activities ? Then we invite you to apply for our GRSS Regional Chapters Coordinator program! Note that “chapters” here refers to both professional and student GRSS chapters.
As a GRSS Regional Chapter Coordinator (RCC), you will get the chance to participate in the administrative committee of the Society, help organize events relevant to GRSS Chapters, and participate in the Chapter chairs dinner at the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), the flagship GRSS conference. The following is a non-exhaustive set of examples of potential RCC involvement:
An RCC will assist in administrative duties related to the healthy functioning of GRSS chapters
An RCC will help secure appropriate society and IEEE funding for activities organized by chapter(s).
An RCC will help GRSS members start new chapters where there are no existing ones.
An RCC will have the opportunity to travel to IGARSS, other IEEE GRSS sponsored events and other remote sensing conferences to help recruit more members and build the GRSS community.
We are looking for motivated, creative, and enthusiastic volunteers who are team players and who are passionate about creating and fostering a strong sense of community among GRSS Chapter members. Participation in the RCC program will significantly enhance your organizational skills, professional network, and scientific visibility.
The RCC program is a 2-year program, with the second year subject to review after the first year. There will be a total of 2 RCCs in the program and 1 new RCC will be recruited every year with terms beginning on February 1st. As an RCC, you will get to attend 2 annual IGARSS conferences, financially covered by GRSS. RCCs with terms starting on March 15, 2023, will be able to attend IGARSS’23 in Pasadena, California.
Apart from mandatory IEEE and GRSS memberships, there are no minimum qualifications so all IEEE GRSS members are encouraged to apply. However, the selection process will be competitive. The major criteria evaluated will be demonstrated technical expertise in a field related to geoscience and remote sensing, history of professional service, demonstrated organizational competence, communication skills, and previous involvement in GRSS activities. The finalists will go through a short interview before the final decision is made.
If you are interested, complete the linked form (note that a Google account is needed):
After completing the personal information portion, you will be asked to upload your curriculum vitae (1 page);
Keep in mind: IEEE and GRSS memberships are required by the time of the award. You may apply for IEEE and GRSS membership at the time of the submission to be considered.
Submission due: March 3, 2023.
