IEEE GRSS Bangalore Section is excited to organize the flagship IEEE GRSS regional conference 2023 IEEE India Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (InGARSS) under the patronage of the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore and IEEE Bangalore Section. The conference features eminent keynote speakers, high-quality peer-reviewed research papers reporting original contributions, special sessions highlighting state-of-the-art research and technologies, doctoral colloquium, IEEE Bangalore Section inter-society collaborative event, industry track, WiE/DEI track, YP track, exhibits, and invited sessions on STEM and social entrepreneurship, all of them in the context of in geoscience and remote sensing.
InGARSS is aimed at providing a platform for sharing knowledge and experience on recent developments and advancements in geoscience and remote sensing technologies, particularly in the context of earth observations, and disaster monitoring, relevant to the Indian subcontinent, and others. This is the third edition of the regional GRSS conference series, InGARSS. The first two being in 2020 and 2021, were conducted online owing to the pandemic. Thus, this is the first in the series to be conducted in-person with limited option for online participation (hybrid mode).
RESEARCH TRACK: We solicit high quality research papers for both oral and poster presentations and for inclusion in InGARSS proceedings, potentially in IEEExplore (subject to terms and conditions of IEEE Publishing Policy). The themes in research track are Sensing Methods, Data Science Methods, and Applications.
TUTORIALS: We will have a set of tutorials on a diverse set of topics ranging from widely used GIS tools to standards and applications. The objectives of the tutorials are multifold including providing guidance on established practices and methodologies to introducing external topics relevant to research in geoscience and remote sensing. Each tutorial will be a half-day (3 hours) session, and will be delivered by experts in the domain on the pre-conference day.
INVITED SPECIAL SESSIONS: Outside of the themes mentioned in the research track, we have solicited proposals for specific ones pertaining to natural disaster, tropical diseases, climate change mitigation and adaption, agriculture and food security, multimodal remote sensing image analysis, and planetary remote sensing. The selected proposals will be further called for paper submissions through the research track. The goal of invited special sessions is to get a diversity in themes within the research contribution presentations.
DOCTORAL COLLOQUIUM: The aim of the doctoral colloquium is to bring together students at different stages of their doctoral research working in the interdisciplinary fields of geoscience and remote sensing. Here, we solicit extended abstracts from Ph.D. scholars 3rd year or later, and selected abstracts will be presented at the event, on the pre-conference day. We encourage early stage Ph.D. students to register and attend the events to learn from these presentations and expert feedback to the same.
INDUSTRY TRACK: We will have a presentation-only event by industry representatives and a startup-oriented session pertaining to the geoscience and remote sensing domain. For the former, there is a formal selection of proposals for presentation which go through two-stage process, for the proposal and for the final presentation. This track will capitalize on the large-scale presence of geospatial organizations in Bangalore.
TECHNICAL COMMUNITY NETWORKING EVENTS: We have three events targeted towards specific groups, namely the women in engineering (WIE); diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and young professionals (YP). The goal of the WIE event is to provide a platform for successful women professionals in the domain to talk of specific challenges in their career paths, while that of the DEI event is to provide an opportunity to the minority groups to express themselves and network through birds of the feather (BOF) sessions. The YP event entails a “Story through Maps” challenge. These events are open only for registered participants soon after their registration.
THEMED EVENTS: We have curated special events on social entrepreneurship by the Geospatial World Chamber of Commerce (GWCC), IEEE Bangalore Section’s inter-society collaborative event involving Communications Society (ComSoc), Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) and Systems Council, and potentially, a capacity building STEM program.
