As part of the IEEE GRSS and IGARSS TIE (Technology, Industry, and Education) webinar series, please join us in this latest webinar meant to provide basic information for authors interested in publishing in GRSS journals to create a high impact paper. Topics to be covered are paper structure and format, reproducibility and replicability, as well aesthetics. The webinar is intended for authors at all levels, but it is especially suited for Young Professionals and PhD students near the beginning of their careers. The instructors are Alejandro Frery, from Unversidad Federal de Alagoas, Brazil, former Editor in Chief of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, and Paolo Gamba, IEEE GRSS President.

SPEAKER’S BIO:

Paolo Gamba is currently Full Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Pavia, Italy. He received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering “cum laude” from the University of Pavia, Italy, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the same University in 1993. He is a Fellow of IEEE, and from 2009 to 2013 he has served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters. He has been member of the GRSS AdCom of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society since 2009, Chapter Committee Chair from 2014 to 2016, and Latin American activity Liaison in the same period. He has served in 2016 as GRSS Vice President for Professional Activities, from 2017 to 2018 as GRSS Executive Vice President, and he is currently President of the same Society.

He has been the representative of the University of Pavia in the Consorzio Universitario per l’Argentina in 2018-2019, and Visiting Professor at the Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro in 2014 and at the Federal University of Alagoas (both in Brazil) in 2017.

He has been invited lecturer, thanks to the ERASMUS exchange program for teachers, at the University of Extremadura (Spain), the University of Cordoba (Argentina), and Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel).

Finally, He holds a Adjunct Professor positions at Nanjing University and Hunan University (P.R. China).

All in all, he has been invited to give keynote lectures and tutorials in several occasions about urban remote sensing, data fusion, EO data and risk management. He published more than 150 papers in international peer-review journals and presented more than 300 research works in workshops and conferences.

SPEAKER’S BIO:

Alejandro Frery received the Engineer’s Degree in Electronics and Electricity from the Facultad de Ingeniería, Universidad de Mendoza, Argentina in 1985. His MSc degree is in Applied Mathematics (Statistics) from the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, obtained in 1990. His PhD degree is in Applied Computing from the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE), São José dos Campos, SP, Brazil, obtained in 1993. During both his MSc and PhD he worked with statistical models for image simulation, processing, and analysis: Markov random fields and models for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. His current research interests, besides image processing and analysis, include computational statistics and modelling of complex systems.
