The Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society functionally conducts its activities through 82 chapters across the globe. For India, we had established the Gujarat chapter in 2013. Since then a regular e-newsletter is published annually. This talk focuses on the need of a e-newsletter at the Chapter level, its content, distribution mechanism, and its impact. This effort has also resulted in enhanced awareness of the GRSS society and growth of membership in India.

SPEAKER’S BIO:
Shiv Mohan is a Microwave Remote Sensing Specialist who served ISRO for about thirty-three years during 1978- 2011. During his career, he developed microwave remote sensing applications for India, for which he was honored with the Indian national remote sensing award (1995). He was Principal investigator of many prestigious International Announcements of opportunity research projects on microwave remote sensing from the European Space Agency, NASA/DLR, Japanese Exploration Agency and Italian Space Agency. He also served as Chief Scientist to Government of Haryana during 1998-2011 and received the special service certificate.

He was one of the main architects in the realization of India’s first RISAT utilization program where he worked as Project Director till 2011. He is also among the Indian pioneers who explored the Mini SAR data of Chandrayaan-1 for lunar water ice detection and developed new models for water ice detection and regolith depth estimation suiting to Chandrayaan-2 SAR. He has authored a book on Chandrayaan-1 Mini SAR data investigation. He is also contributing as review committee member of Chandrayaan-2 science team and future Venus mission.

He has 320 research papers in Journals, conferences and reports and served as keynote speaker in many National and international conferences. He served on more than 70 technical committees of ISRO and others involving issues in the area of microwave remote sensing. He is also a reviewer in many national and International Journals and
received the Outstanding Reviewer Award from Elsevier, Netherlands in May, 2015. Presently, he is visiting faculty in various academic institute and providing specialized services to Industry. He is the founding Chair of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote sensing Society – Gujarat Chapter. He is also liaison coordinator of the society for the Indian region.
