Position Description |
|
Seeking a bright, energetic individual to work in our small group of Engineers involved primarily in the design, fabrication and testing of prototype ocean sensors. Additionally, we support experimentation in the fields of remote sensing, ocean physics, and National defense. Our facilities in Arlington include lab space that supports small-scale mechanical and electrical fabrication and testing. We use ProEngineer and Algor design tools for 3-D CAD and FEA.
Some typical projects include:
· Design and build expendable oceanographic sensors (e.g. conductivity, temperature, Inherent Optical Properties) · Design and build optical systems for airborne research and UAVs · Design classically- and uniquely-shaped underwater pressure vessels for electronics housings · Design, fabricate and test an array of towed sensors for ocean research

Position Requirements |
|
Successful candidates shall be proficient in applying engineering principles and be comfortable with hands-on fabrication and field-testing of sensors and housings. An ideal candidate will be adept at mechanical design and fabrication and familiar with electrical systems designs and principals.
At a minimum a candidate will have the following:
· A BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or equivalent and 0 to 5 years experience. · Knowledge of 3-D CAD and Drafting (ProEngineer preferred). · Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, encapsulation techniques, and prototyping. · General knowledge of engineering materials and the effects of the ocean environment on those materials. · The ability to travel and perform field experiments (including at-sea testing).
Candidate(s) selected must meet eligibility requirements for a U.S. government security clearance and must be U.S. citizens. |
