Paolo Gamba

GRSS President 2019-2020

Paolo Gamba is currently a Full Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Pavia, Italy. He received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering “cum laude” from the University of Pavia, Italy, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the same University in 1993. He is a Fellow of IEEE, and from 2009 to 2013 he served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters. He has been a member of the AdCom and Chapter Committee Chair for the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society from 2014 to 2016, and Latin American activity Liaison in the same period. He served in 2016 as Vice President for Professional Activities, Executive Vice President, and President of the Society. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Magazine.

He has been the organizer and Technical Chair of the biennial GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshops on “Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas” from 2001 until 2015. He served as Technical Co-Chair of the 2010, 2015, and 2020 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, respectively in Honolulu, Hawaii, Milan, Italy, and online.

He has been Director of the International Center for Research on Risk and Security (2007-2010) of the University Institute for Advanced Studies and Head of the Remote Sensing and Telecommunications Section of the European Center for Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering (2008-2011).

He has been invited to give keynote lectures and tutorials on several occasions about urban remote sensing, data fusion, EO data, and risk management. He published more than 190 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and presented more than 340 research works in workshops and conferences.

He has been the Coordinator of the Bachelor in Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Pavia (20 and the President of the Graduate School in Information Engineering, in charge of the Masters in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Bioengineering. He is currently a member of the Engineering Faculty of the Quality Assurance Committee of the University of Pavia and the Delegate of the Rector of relationships with the Americas. (Jan., 2024)
